The Collateral Minds is a cruise into the vast panorama of human relationships and the varying cultural connotations where race and culture end up as determining factors in shaping human behaviour. It surveys the turbulent and fiery passions of man-woman relationship which can prosper only in an idealized family set-up. The multilayered and astonishingly complex character, Sansaar – representing masses in general, may proclaim that he has risen above the discriminations of race, caste, creed, culture and gender polarities, but the reality that eventuates during the course of the novel shows his pawned mind and an alienated self. The novel chases his struggle to overcome his indeterminacies in the postcolonial and patriarchal world. After the Second World War till today, multitudes of people have been migrating for varied reasons to the developed countries to establish ‘new homes’ in the host-lands. This compelling work of fiction will transport the readers into the lives of such characters and into their universe for the duration of the novel. The Collateral Minds is concretely linked to vacuums experienced by psychologically starved generations and presents the universal human mind which has its share of complexities, intricacies, moral dilemmas and fluctuating dispositions.
