The Sikhs in Ferment: Battles of the Sikh Gurus
The Sikhs in Ferment tells a fascinating story, bits and pieces of which every reader of history has heard at sometime or the other. Here, for the first time is a highly readable revelation of the rise of Sikhism set against the history of the Mughal Empire. Generously dotted with apt quotations, it concentrates on the lives of the ten Sikh Gurus, from Guru Nanak to Guru Gobind Singh, delineating the transformation of a people from pacifism to defensive aggression. The author, in his detailed study of the subject, puts in clear perspective the compelling circumstances that forced Guru Hargobind and Guru Gobind Singh to transform their followers into a chivalrous race.
The Sikhs in Ferment is also a valuable compendium of literary evidence on a period that has always been somewhat controversial. This book blasts some historical inaccuracies that have crept into history books and been accepted as facts, while it also narrates the traditional element of the saint-soldiers' early years.
A well conceived analysis of the early rise of the Sikhs rounds off a highly informative work.
