Sikh Ethos is the latest work on the eighteenth century Sikh psyche which has not somehow received as much attention of the scholars as it deserved. Consequently, the period also came to be known as the dark period. The Sikh community underwent the harshest persecution including two holocausts until the events epitomized in the Sikh sovereign state under Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The book focuses on the Sikh spirit of dynamism and commitment to socio-spiritual values which helped them come out of chaotic conditions as victors and rulers of the land. The role played by certain misaldars especially Sardar Baghel Singh has been put to analytical scrutiny. Written in simple and lucid English prose, the book makes an interesting reading and should be of immense use and help to scholars and students of Sikh studies.
