Introduction to the Book 'Glimpses of Sikhism'

Mr. Nahar Singh Jawandha (b. 1922) is a second world war veteran. He served in the Indian Army for 38 years. Mr. Jawandha is a voracious reader and had been reviewing English books for the widely circulated English daily newspaper, Calgary Herald. His articles are regularly published in the monthly International magazine, Sikh Virsa. He was founder President of Indian Ex Service Men Immigrant Association, Calgary and was president of Council of Sikh Organizations, Calgary from 2006-2008. Mr. Jawandha was one of the recipients of Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee Gold Medal. He was awarded Govt. of Alberta Centennial Medal for his outstanding community services.

Mr. Jawandha was a leader of the team for presenting the case to include Pubjabi in the school curriculum of Alberta, and thus Punjabi became one of the four major languages for inclusion. Mr. Jawandha, on many occasions, appeared on TV shows to present his views on the issue turban and other related Sikh issues. He has been associated with numerous organizations, like Calgary Police, Calgary Catholic Immigration Society, Calgary Immigrant Aid Society, Calgary Board of Education, North of Mcknight Resource Centre, and Dashmesh Cultural Centre.

Undeterred by age, Mr. Jawandha's prolific pen continues to produce scholarly literature.

"Babanian Kahanian - Put Suput karen." This book contains valuable episodes stories/pearls pertaining to Sikh history over a period of time. It is hoped that youngsters and others will read them and will be reminded of the sacrifices of our ancestors given for us so that we may live in peace.
