Summary of 'Asa Di Var' By Dr Sukhbir Singh Kapoor And Mohinder Kaur Kapoor 

Sikhism, one of the youngest religions of the world, founded by Guru Nanak Dev, believes in the unity of God, the teachings of the ten Sikh Gurus and the Guru Granth Sahib. The three pillars of Sikhism are meditation or prayer, honest living and sharing one's wealth and happiness with others. According to the Sikh Rehat Mirayada (Code of Conduct), a Sikh must recite or read five prayers everyday - three in the morning, one in the evening and one at night. In addition, one ballad in a musical mode Asa, popularly called Asa Di var, is sung in the Gurudwaras and places of Sikh worship, in the early hours of the morning. A master composition of Guru Nanak, Asa Di var contains 24 stanzas called pauris and 59 (60) couplets called sloaks.

This book provides detailed description of the ballad as given in the holy scripture in English, Hindi and Panjabi. The bani has been ~rranged in the traditional way of singing a pada of a chhant of Guru Ramdas before every pauri. Asa Di var is a spiritual poetry in musical form and it endeavours to bring the readers and listeners closer to God and His abode. It explains a sure way to realise God. 

About The Authors of 'Asa Di Var' 

Dr. Sukhbir Singh Kapoor is a graduate of London, Glasgow, Punjab and Agra Universities. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, both of the United Kingdom. Grandson of Late Professor Kishen Singh, the first Sikh Principal of Khalsa College, Amritsar and son of Late Sardar Ku/want Singh, the Principal Executive (Secretary) of Punjab and Sindh Bank, Dr. Kapoor is the First Vice Chancellor of World Sikh University, London. A scholar, writer and journalist, he has published numerous articles in English journals. He is also the author of thirty three books on Sikh Religion and History, three books on Panjabi Poetry, two books on Financial Accounting and one book on Economic Theory. He is the Chief Editor of Sikh Courier International published in London.

Mrs. Mohinder Kaur Kapoor is studying for her doctorate in Sikh religion. She is a very devoted mother and a very loving wife. She is a devoted and practising Sikh, she has toured all over India to visit historical Gurudwaras and has collected Charan dhul from all the shrines she has visited.
