The book deals, as its subject matter, with folk dances of Panjab. For the first time, an analytical study of technique, style, background, etymology and evolution of dance forms of the area has been made and various elements of these forms have been documented and presented in a book form.
A number of sketches of dance poses have been included as illustrations to present a 'clearer view of different actions and movements adopted by the performers. Thus, the book includes extremely valuable reference material on folk dance forms of Panjab region which also includes the areas of Western Panjab now included in Pakistan. About The Author 'Iqbal Singh Dhillon' Of 'Folk Dances Of Panjab'
Iqbal Singh Dhillon is a wellknown scholar and poet. An M.A. in English, he has been awarded Ph. D. degree by the Panjab University, Chandigarh, for his research work on the subject of folk dances of Panjab. He has contributed a large number of articles and research papers on culture of Panjab, to the magazines and newspapers of repute, seminars and conferences on culture of the region. He has appreciable command over both English and Panjabi languages. Having taught English language and literature to degree and post-graduate classes for over nine years, he has been working as Director and Head of the Department of Youth Welfare, Panjab University, Chandigarh, for the last two decades. He was associated with the Panjab Sangeet Natak Akademi as its Secretary and he is the founder Chairman of Mission of Universal Harmony, Chandigarh.
